Brian is the current President of the Hastings Valley Fine Arts Association.
Brian Barker was born in Sydney, left school at the age of 14 started his working life in the Leather Industry as a Leather Classer Cutter, from there he become an Apprentice in the Printing Industry as a Retoucher \ Dot Etcher now known as Graphic Designers. Basically it is the same technology as used in Photo shop only it was done by hand and eye skills and required a diploma in art. Consequently Brian obtained a Diploma at East Sydney Art College after 5 years as well as four years at TAFE. He was fortunate to work with artists throughout the industry, as Commercial Artist shared the same section of the industry as the Graphic Designers. To do the trade of graphic reproduction you had to know colour, tone, and design. Brian Spent 50 years in the industry before retiring to Bonny Hills, Port Macquarie.
His interest in art has never waned. He and his wife Rita Carosi joined the Hastings Valley Fine Art Association shortly after establishing themselves at Bonny Hills in 2000. Brian first started painting in Oils and then moved to Acrylic and Pastel, But then found the wonders of Watercolour and most of his work produced is in that medium.
Brian has been recognised a number of times in exhibitions for his work ranging from First Prize, Highly Commended and Commended. He has attended most of the workshops organised by the Association to improve his skills and has sold his work at a number of exhibitions and galleries in Sydney, Raymond Terrace, Taree, and Port Macquarie. Brian has also done a number of commission paintings.
Brian also assists in organising the Hastings Valley Fine Art Association Exhibitions Including the Summer Showcase and has been responsible for establishing the Associations Gallery at Port Macquarie he has been the President of the HVFAA for the last eleven years.
Brian and Rita have their own home studio/gallery which is open for inspection and sales most days.
